Eviction and COVID-19

The Overview

Eviction is the leading cause of homelessness. Would you know where to turn if you were evicted? The mission of the King County Bar Association’s Housing Justice Project is to provide legal services to the recently evicted – and they do it for free.

The Solution

While Washington State issued a moratorium on evictions during the pandemic, it won’t last forever. Meanwhile, rent debt is still accruing. If federal funding doesn’t reach people in danger of eviction before the moratorium is lifted, King County will see a surge of homelessness, exacerbating an already dire situation. The Housing Justice Project’s mission is to make sure that funding reaches those in need. And the clock is ticking.
